Of Mice and Boys

This is a story e-mailed to us by Thor's best friend's dad:

Yesterday as I was done a round of interviews in the daycare office and came out to bring Alexis home, his best friend Thor came up to me and said "I have a mouse in my pocket". "Oh, really", says I, "is it real?". Following his positive confirmation to my not so seriously meant question, I said "show me!", and out of his pocket comes a tiny baby mouse (real but dead - probable cause: suffocation or pure shock). I smiled as if to say "good cat" (like I do to Zebulon when he catches a mouse), but the operative manager of the day care gave a loud scream (she has a thing against tiny animals), and ordered Thor to throw it out right away and wash and disinfect his hands (they have these automatic disinfectant liquid machines due to the swine flue - H1N1 -spreading).

Worse was yet to come: Upon being asked by the staff: "Where on earth did you get the idea of catching a live baby mouse?" Thor replies: "Alexis caught it and gave it to me as a present", whereby Alexis hides behind the door, wishing he was already home... I just laughed and explained why it was, though fascinating and exciting, maybe better for the mouse to stay outside with his mom and dad, and then had my bratty boy wash and disinfect his hands.

I left the day care with a nostalgic smile: Once way back, must have been around 10-12 years old, me and my best friend Christian came home from a 2 week sailing camp with two large empty coffee tins with one vole (field-mice actually) in each tin... my first pet...funny how the world turns, eh!

Thanks, Niklas, for sharing the story with us. Thor did not mention his mouse adventure at all :-)
